April 08, 2008
Eighth grader Arianna Hesemann drew this poster to enter into the “Roadsides Are For The Birds” contest. The contest is sponsored by the MN DNR Roadside for Wildlife Program, the Wildlife Heritage Association, Pheasants Forever, MN Waterfowl Association, MN Pheasants Inc. (Steel Co. Chapter), Izaak Walton League (New Ulm Chapter), and other organizations. It is open to 7th and 8th grade students and is intended to promote awareness of the importance of grassy roadsides in maintaining farmland wildlife populations. Students must illustrate the idea that roadside habitat is important to the survival of birds that nest on the ground or in low vegetation, and prizes are awarded based on suitability to the theme, neatness, creativity, and biological accuracy. Prizes will be awarded in May. Good Luck, Arianna!
