Message from Superintendent

September 24, 2007

The school year is off to a great start and we have one quarter already completed.  It is amazing how the time flies by us.  SSC has so many exciting things happening this year, so I will try to touch on a few of those as we celebrate American Education Week.

Technology is just an amazing educational tool.  This year we have expanded our mobile wireless lab capability.  This allows the computers to come to the students versus having the class go to a lab.  The convenience of no cords is also a plus.  The district website also has received a new look and we are hearing favorable comments about that change as well.  The last two exciting technology pieces that were added were smart boards in both buildings and two display monitors at the HS.  The smart boards will be revolutionizing the traditional educational approach by integrating teacher instruction, student participation, and the knowledgebase of the Internet all at the instructor’s fingertip.

Other exciting news comes from our curriculum department.  The elementary went to a departmentalized model of instruction in grades 4-6 and all is going very well there.  The students participating should reap huge benefits down the road.  The elementary also purchased an art curriculum, which several of the teachers have been utilizing already.  At the high school, we are excited to be offering our first AP course.  In addition, we also offered several other new courses including:  Forensics, Photo Shop, Ag. Economics, Food and Meat Science, and Lifeguarding.  These changes and offerings are a direct result of a dedicated staff striving for excellence.

That leads me to my closing comments.  I could go on and on about all the good things happening at SSC, but there is a reason why our school system stays up to date in these areas and continues to set high goals for our educational system.  That is the quality staff at SSC.  Our teachers go above and beyond to do what it takes to keep us a viable and competitive district.  The hours, the commitment, and the genuine interest in our students is top notch.  Our students are very fortunate.
